The holiday resort of Salou is well known for having some of the best golden sandy beaches in the Costa Dorada which are particularly safe for the children and host a variety of watersports.


Salou has a number of international restaurants to suit all tastes, and a vast array of shops, boutiques, supermarkets plus a weekly market for that holiday bargain. A holiday in Salou is ideal for families. Transfer to Salou is around 45 minutes coach transfer from Reus Airport.

Beaches on Holiday in Salou:

The beaches of Salou seem to be the resort's main attractions and with the fine golden sand and the clear, shallow waters, it is easy to see why. The main Salou beach stretches either side of the port, to the East is Llevant Beach and the the West is Ponent Beach. Both Salou beaches are sandy and spacious and very popular with families on holiday. Facilities at the Salou beaches, Ponent Beach include cafes, life guard, showers and toilets. Llevant Beach is much the same but also offers a gym, children's play areas, volleyball courts and beach bars.

Salou has a walkway running parallel to the beach which is popular with holiday makers having picnics on the grassy areas.

Although the Salou beaches can get very busy in the summer months, there are some little coves and smaller, more sheltered beaches which are just as pretty. The flag system at Salou beaches is a great way to ensure people only enter the water when it is safe to do so.

Things to do on Holiday in Salou:

There is plenty to do on a holiday in Salou such as mini golf and various children's playgrounds but perhaps the most popular attraction would be Port Aventura Theme Park. The park which is very close to Salou offers various themed areas, each with their own rides, attractions and restaurants. The park is suitable for young and old on holiday in Salou so you really must pay it a visit.

There is also a water park in Salou right next to Port Aventura Theme Park, here you will find various water slides, raging crazy river, wave pools, smaller rides for younger children and indoor play areas to escape the sun.

Salou also has a karting track at the Adrenaline Park which is suitable for ages from four upwards. As well as mini golf available in Salou there is also a 9 hole golf course and an 18 hole golf course.

When you are out in the evening on your holiday in Salou, be sure to pay a visit to the fountain at the start of the promenade. After sunset, the fountain is lit up and changes colour in time to music, it really is worth seeing.

Being a beach resort, Salou offers many watersports such as water skiing, windsurfing, parasailing, sailing and jet skiing. In Salou there are also several land based sports to try including football, table tennis and beach volleyball.

There is a good range of restaurants in Salou and you can get anything from traditional Spanish Tapas to fast food, definitely something for everyone. There are plenty of cheap bars on offer, many of which are British and Irish. There are several nightclubs in Salou but it might be a bit tame for some and a trip to Barcelona may be worthwhile.

There are plenty of souvenir shops, mini markets and fashion stores in the resort of Salou which are great for wandering round and finding that holiday bargain. There is also a flea market in the old town centre of Salou on a Monday so if you fancy grabbing a bargain, this is the place to be.

There is plenty to do in the various holiday resorts surrounding Salou so if you fancy getting out of Salou for the day there are endless opportunities.

Cambrils, which is just a short taxi ride away from Salou is a working fishing port and has a great beach and is well known for its many seafood restaurants along its waterfront. Many people come here especially to sample the beautiful cuisine. Tarragona is also close by to Salou and is perfect for those who are interested in history as there are several Roman ruins to visit.

If you want to escape Salou and the holiday resorts and enjoy a relaxing day out, why not visit the Ebro Delta wet lands. Holiday makers can enjoy walking through the different habitats eg coastal lagoons, marshland and sand dunes and spot the many different species of birdlife such as kingfishers, herons and flamingos. If you want to take the weight off your feet, take a river boat trip through the riverside forest for an unforgettable experience.

Another must to whilst in Salou is to take the train to Barcelona which takes approx 1 hour. There is so much to do here and whatever you do you will have a great time. You could take a trip to the zoo or take a tour of the famous Camp Nou football stadium or if shopping is your thing then this is the place to be. There are some amazing buildings here, many of which are Gaudi's work. The amazing fountains at Plaza Espania are worth seeing during the day but even better at night when they are lit up and and 'dance' to music. A great city with no end of things to see and do and well within reach of Salou.
